The Area - Crete
CRETE is the largest and most southern of the Greek islands - stretching for 256km across the Mediterranean. It is the most popular of the Greek islands and has only half the population density of the European Union.
This beautiful and unspoilt island has on average 330 days of sunshine every year and a mild winter temperature. The landscape is both varied and dramatic, ranging from a mountainous interior, snowcapped from December – May, to long sandy beaches with clear, turquoise seas.
The north west of Crete is an area of outstanding beauty and is the greenest part of the island. Here, lush vegetation meets the coast where a scattering of villages and fishing harbours appear as if time has stood still.
Crete has two major airports allowing easy accessibility via a three and half hour flight from the UK, inexpensive property, unspoiled scenery and a cost of living 40% less than the UK. It is no wonder that people are now viewing Crete as a very attractive location to buy their dream home in the sun.
